When choosing a course book for lower primary, we should take into account from which grade we start, how we will continue with a series for the higher grades, but most importantly whether the series is suitable for the age-group.

State school

We recommend Young Stars. Since this series follows the development of young learners, we recommend the level used to be the same as the year, though there can be one level difference. This is a dual-entry-level series that can be started with level 1 or level 3. Level 1 doesn’t contain any reading or writing, making it suitable for year 1.

We also recommend using level 5 in year 5, before switching to an upper-primary course book. This ensures that students reach A1, and comply with all the requirements of the national curriculum.

Language schools, bilingual & more intensive courses

For these students, we recommend Get Smart Plus, since this series has a quicker pace and reaches a higher level compared to other course books.
